Summer Camp for Our Girls

Remember when you were a kid and how exciting it was going to camp? Well, nothing has changed - the girls in the SHE Rescue Home got to go on their own three day camp.

And… Loved. Every. Minute.

Just like the rest of the world over the last six months, the girls have felt the weight and the worry of the COVID pandemic – not being able to visit their family, unable to attend school or vocational training, places of worship and youth groups. But… finally, they were able to experience the wonder and joy of a normal childhood rite of passage… Camp!

Camp is synonymous with crazy FUN, outdoor activities and meaningful evening discussions.

Obstacle courses, pools, rope courses, beach visits, hiking, games and activities – it had every ingredient for a fantastic few days; with evenings spent in team and trust-building games and group therapy activities. All the girls were inspired by the special guests – 2 former SHE Rescue Home girls who shared their journey from exploitation and vulnerability to empowerment and hope. One of the girls has completed her studies and vocational training and she now works in a large company and is able to provide a living for herself. The other girl has one year left on her law degree. The girls were able to ask questions about challenges of reintegrating home and what dreams they have for their life.

Getting out of the house to enjoy the simple childhood pleasure of camp was priceless. The memories of these three days will live on for a long time to come.

Just like our own kids, these girls appreciate school holiday fun and the innocent childhood pleasures of camping. To be able to take them away for three wonderful, carefree days meant the world to the girls as well as the house Mums – and was only possible through the generous donation of a sponsor. We are so grateful that even in these times, our girls are still on the hearts and minds of people all over the world who continue to give generously.
